Turbo Boost Your Revision Process
Jump start your revision in a special VIP day with coaching support
One of my kids is obsessed with Formula 1 racing. In casually watching with him, I know just enough to be dangerous.
Although he’d probably argue I know just enough to annoy him.
Before this season (don’t get my son started on the new regulations that went into effect this year), the drivers had access to DRS, Drag Reduction System.
Here is where I know just enough to tell you just enough, so avid fans, please excuse and forgive my ignorance.
DRS allowed drivers in specific conditions (in certain track zones and if they were within one second of the car in front of them), the opportunity to lift a flap on the rear wing to reduce drag to allow one driver to pass another.
In other words, when the conditions were just right, sometimes, drivers got a little boost.
What does this have to do with revision, Monica?
I’m so glad you asked!
Revision is a slow and steady process. It takes several passes (or laps in a race track) to get the project done.
Working with a coach can help you become more efficient in many ways: pointing out where you should focus your attention, assisting with brainstorming, keeping you on pace, and providing personalized craft support.
But sometimes, writers want more of a boost to spur their revision on. A DRS for revision, so to speak.
In my world, the DRS equivalent is my VIP Day.
Just like DRS isn’t used willy nilly at any point in the race, the conditions for a VIP Day are specific and not for everyone.
In a VIP Day with me, we kickstart your revision process in one day, rather than the typical two month container I provide as a coach.
VIP Days are perfect if you are about to start on a big revision pass and want to approach your revision with intent. VIP Days work well for folks who are deadline oriented, motivated, and able to do several hours of deep work at once. VIP Days may also be appropriate if you have a deadline for your revision and don’t want to leave your process to chance.
I completed an amazing VIP Day with a writer last week. A former journalist, the idea of processing information quickly and working deep was attractive to her. She nailed her pre-work which allowed us to dive into the deep end right away. On the day, we made great progress weaving two distinct story lines together and created a plan that she can take forward with her into the summer to execute her revision.
So if you are ready to put in some hard work and deep thinking on your manuscript, have a day to spend in conversation about your book, and are excited about the idea of workshopping the solutions that will create your revision plan, then a VIP Day might be for you.
Whether we work together at a slower pace or turbo boosted in a VIP Day, I’ll be out here on the track ready to support you in whatever capacity works best for you, your story, and your process.
